Who Am I Now? Finding Yourself Again Alongside Motherhood

There’s a moment many mums experience but few talk about out loud.
You pause in the middle of the chaos between school runs, meals, laundry, tantrums, and to-do lists and you think “Who even am I now?”
Not just as a mum. Not just as someone holding everything together.
But you. The version of you that existed before all of this and the version you’re becoming now.
Motherhood Changes You In Every Way
Becoming a mum changes your life in the most beautiful, challenging, and overwhelming ways.
Your time is no longer your own. Your needs often come last.
Your identity slowly shifts into “mum,” “carer,” “organiser,” “fixer,” “everything for everyone.”
And somewhere in that shift, without realising it, you can start to feel a little lost.
Not because you’ve done anything wrong but because you’ve spent so long giving yourself away.
Losing Yourself Doesn’t Mean You’re Gone
If you’re in a season where you don’t quite recognise yourself anymore, I want you to hear this gently, you are still in there.
You haven’t disappeared you’ve just been deeply needed by everyone else for a long time.
And now, slowly, you’re starting to notice yourself again in small ways -
What you enjoy
What drains you
What you miss
What you want more of
That noticing, that’s the beginning of coming back to yourself.
The Truth About “Who Am I Now?”
This question can feel uncomfortable at first.
Because it comes with uncertainty. Change. Growth.
And sometimes a quiet grief for the version of you who used to feel more certain.
But here’s the truth -
You are not who you were before motherhood.
You are not “just a mum.”
You are becoming someone new and that is not a loss, it’s an evolution.
You are allowed to grow beyond the identity you once had.
Finding Yourself Doesn’t Mean Starting Over
You don’t need to rebuild yourself from scratch.
This isn’t about going back it’s about coming forward.
It can look like, reconnecting with things you used to love,
exploring new interests that feel like you now, saying yes to yourself more often and
noticing what actually feels good in this season of life
Small things matter. Because small things lead you back to yourself.
You Are Allowed to Exist Outside of Motherhood
One of the hardest truths for many mums is this
You can love your children deeply, and still miss yourself.
Both can be true.
You are still a woman with dreams, preferences, feelings, and identity not just a role you play for others and you are allowed to make space for that woman again.
A Gentle Reminder for You Today
If you take one thing from this blog, let it be this
You are not lost. You are in the process of finding yourself again in a new season, with a new identity, and a deeper understanding of who you are becoming.
And you don’t need to rush it.
Just notice yourself again.
In the quiet moments.
In the small choices.
In the way you show up for you.
Final Thoughts
Motherhood doesn’t erase you. It reshapes you.
And somewhere underneath the noise, the responsibility, and the everyday demands and mental load you are still there.
Becoming. Growing. Reconnecting.
And slowly, gently finding your way back to yourself.
