Do One Or Do All Or Do Five, You Decided It All Counts Towards Self Care
Do One Or Do All Or Do Five, You Decided It All Counts Towards Self Care

Some mornings, I manage to do all eight. Other days? I’m lucky if I tick off two or three. And that’s the beauty of self-care—it doesn’t have to be all or nothing. It’s about small, meaningful moments that help you feel grounded, calm, and ready to face whatever the day throws your way.

This post isn’t about perfection. It’s about creating a soft structure to your mornings that you can adjust depending on your energy, your kids, and your chaos level. Whether you’re in full mum-mode or stealing five minutes for yourself before the house wakes up, here are eight simple habits to start your day with intention.

1. Hydrate

Your body goes 6-8 hours without water overnight. Rehydrating in the morning boosts energy, helps with brain function, and gives your digestion a gentle kickstart. Even one glass can make a difference.

2. Meditate

Even 3-5 minutes of meditation can reduce stress, help regulate your emotions, and bring mental clarity. Apps like Insight Timer or Calm make it easy to squeeze in some mindful breathing before breakfast.

3. Movement

Whether it’s a walk, a few stretches, or dancing around the kitchen with the kids—moving your body releases feel-good hormones and helps you shake off sleepiness.

4. Get Dressed

Changing out of PJs into something comfortable-yet-cute can do wonders for your mindset. It’s a signal to your brain that the day has begun and that you matter too.

5. Eat a Good Breakfast

Skipping breakfast can leave you low on energy and more likely to snack later. Try something quick but nourishing—overnight oats, eggs, or a smoothie all work wonders.

6. Journal or Write Gratitude

Putting pen to paper helps clear mental clutter. Jot down a few things you're grateful for, or brain dump what’s on your mind. It brings focus and positivity into your morning.

7. Read (10 Minutes Minimum)

You deserve a moment to fuel your mind, not just your to-do list. Read a chapter, a devotional, or even a few inspiring quotes to shift your mindset for the day.

8. Plan Your Day

Take 5 minutes to look at your priorities. Even if your plan changes (and it probably will), starting with a sense of direction helps you feel more in control.

Final Thoughts

There’s no pressure to tick every box. This is about mixing and matching what works for you. Some mornings you’ll have time for all eight, and others will be more about survival mode—and that’s perfectly okay.

Just remember, you deserve a moment. You deserve calm. You deserve care.

Which of these will you try tomorrow morning? Leave a comment or come share in the Self Care Circle Group on Facebook—we’d love to hear from you!

Until next time,

Let’s keep filling our cups, one moment at a time.

Kirsty x

I always have a glass of water before brushing my teeth/washing my face.

I'm good at Getting a morning coffee into myself and some eggs on toast or a banana if I'm flying out the door.

I have 'Travel fruit' in my bag, apples and an oranges to eat along my day.
